Coenzyme Q-10 and Gingivitis

Gum related problems appear in 9 out of every 10 people through the course of their life. Gingivitis is the primary reason for the large-scale loss of teeth, more so than any other dental problem. Entirely one quarter of the entire adult population lose all of their own teeth by age 60 due to gingivitis. Nonetheless, the damage does not stop at the loss of teeth. If neglected, gingivitis may lead to the deformation of the face, chronic pain and even exhaustion.

Millions of people all around the world undergo dental surgical operations which are aimed at cleaning the tissue that is attacked by the disease. Individuals who can no longer be saved by surgical operation are destined to take pain killers for the rest of their entire life and to eat liquefied or puréed foods.

Gingivitis begins with a small colony of bacteria that grows into a colorless film, which eventually constantly coats the teeth. If this film (with its harboring bacteria) is cleaned from the teeth in time, there are no lasting consequences. However, if the bacteria settle at the base of the teeth, then the products of their vital activity begin to irritate the gums, leading to the formation of a solid layer in which more and more bacteria settle in. Gums begin to inflame from the base of the tooth, exposing its lower parts, and on these bared parts grows a new layer of bacteria, moving increasingly deeper, until it reaches the cheek-bone. At this point, teeth begin to shake loose and either fall out or must be removed.

Gums infected with the disease will bleed and become ill. Eventually the gum’s tissue becomes so weak that it can no longer fend off bacteria. Moreover, the toxic products of the bacteria may penetrate the bloodstream and attack and even destroy some immune cells. Contemporary science defines Gingivitis as a disease which can destructively act on the body’s entire immune system.

Before the appearance of Co Q-10 many patients advanced in the disease did not have any hope. Now it may be possible for them to turn the course of the disease.

Co Q-10 has proven to provide the organism the necessary energy to deal with the invading bacteria. With the help of Co Q-10, neglected Gingivitis has been stopped and teeth and gums have been saved. Tests that were carried out under the supervision of one Dr. Mattsumury have produced almost unbelievable results. A group of patients with long-lasting Gingivitis was divided into two halves: 13 of them were given Co Q-10 with strict instructions by a dentist on how to take care of their teeth. Eleven patients from the control group were given a placebo pill and were also made to follow the doctor’s instructions on how to take care of their teeth.

Of the control group, only three patients showed slight, if any, improvement. On the other hand, nine patients in the experimental group showed a substantial improvement in their gums, and in the 8 weeks of observation, in four of them, symptoms have completely disappeared.

Dr. Vilkinson’s research group in Alaska, and later a group of medical officers from the Air Force medical center in California, noted that adding Co Q-10 to their food helped stop the development of the disease. They also noted the extraordinary speed with which the body began to heal wounds, restore tissue, and to increase tissue in the roots. The reports also noted the astonishing capacity that Co Q-10 endows the recipient to heal any wounds in the mouth cavity.
