Taking
vitamin E has been recommended to alleviate the symptoms of Fibrocystic Breast for the last 40 years.
Vitamin E has been known to correct the pathological imbalance between estrogen and progesterone in patients with Breast cysts.
In one study, patients diagnosed with Fibrocystic Breast were given 600 International Units (IU) of
vitamin E for 8 weeks. Approximately 85 % of the participants showed astonishing improvements; in fact, the symptoms associated with Breast cysts practically went into complete remission.
Evening Primrose oil has been shown to reduce the symptoms of Fibrocystic Breast in at least two scientific studies. Subjects dosed with 3 grams of
Evening Primrose oil per day for a period of 3 to 6 months experienced decreased tenderness and pain related to Fibrocystic Breast. These statistically significant results confirmed that
Evening Primrose oil was responsible for alleviating the pain and breast tenderness associated with this condition.
Interestingly enough, it has been observed that the intensity of Breast Pain is inversely related to the concentration of Linolenic acid in the blood. Linolenic acid is one of the key fatty acids necessary for the production of prostaglandins. Linolenic acid is present in both Evening Primrose oil and Borage oil. When the participants of the above mentioned study began receiving Evening Primrose oil their Linolenic acid levels increased while their saturated (“bad”) fat concentration dropped. These are promising findings in the search for the prevention of Breast cysts and optimal overall Breast health.
As mentioned in the previous paragraph, Borage oil has a high content of Linolenic acid, as well. That is why its effects are similar to Evening Primrose oil with respect to the modulation of the prostaglandin inflammatory response. Both, Evening Primrose oil and Borage oil, may take a few weeks to decrease the symptoms of Breast Pain.
Indole-3-carbinol (also called indole-3-glucosinolate) belongs to the biochemical group referred to as Glucosinolates. Glucosinolates are mostly found in cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, Cabbage and Cauliflower. Indole-3-carbinol works in a number of ways: in part it inactivates estrogens. In this function, Indole-3-carbinol, scavenges free radicals and suppresses cancer cell multiplication. Indole-3-carbinol also promotes the secretion of enzymes that help neutralize “bad” estrogen (those associated with the development of breast Cancer) into harmless forms. Broccoli and Cabbage are effective in stimulating the production of enzymes that deactivate cancer producing enzymes.
Studies have shown that taking
folic Acid along with
vitamin E helps relieve the symptoms associated with Breast cysts.
Folic Acid is plentiful in green vegetables, a food group that is frequently lacking in the typical Western diet. Since the combination of those vitamins in the recommended dosages are extremely safe, all women suffering from Fibrocystic Breast symptoms should strongly consider taking
folic Acid with vitamin E.
A daily dose of
Vitamin C may lessen the pain from the Fibrocystic Breast. The recommended dose of the
Vitamin C is 1500 mg a day. To avoid stomach upset, one should start with 500 mg a day for the first week. This dose can be increased to 1000 mg a day by the second week and up to 1500 mg a day on the third week. The pain associated with Breast cysts should begin to lessen about 1 – 2 months after the start of the
Vitamin C supplementation.
